How Good are Maserati Vehicles for Towing?

The Italian luxury car maker Maserati is based out of Modena and has developed a reputation for high performance vehicles. A long history in Italian car making has seen the company be associated with other major manufacturers such as Ferrari.

The origins of the Maserati brand began in 1914 when Ettore and Ernesto Maserati opened up a car workshop in Bologna Italy. These brothers were just two of several who were involved in Italian car racing.

Known as Società Anonima Officine Alfieri Maserati, the timing was terrible for this new venture as the first world war was about to break out. It wasn’t until 1926 that the first vehicle named Maserati would be built, the Tipo 26.

The Tipo was a race car that was based on a car that Alfieri Maserati designed when working for Diatto. Alfieri would race this car in the Targa Florio race and it finished first in the Grand Prix class and ninth overall.

The early days of the Maserati company were focused on creating race cars, many of which the brothers would drive in competition. An iconic logo was created for the brand in these early years based on the Fountain of Neptune in Bologna. The trident was used as a symbol of strength and vigor.

In 1932 Alfieri died leaving his brothers Bindo Ernesto and Ettore in charge of the company. A few years later in 1937 the remaining Maserati brothers sold their shares to the Adolpho Orsi family but they remained involved as engineers.

It would be several more years of racing cars before Maserati entered the world of road cars with the introduction of the A6 in 1947. This sporty front engine coupe was the first in a long line of similar models.

It is now time to address the big question: how much, if anything, can a Maserati tow? Well, with so many models this is a very subjective question but rest assured there is some pulling power in the Maserati brand.

Most Maserati models are designed with sporty luxury in mind but as with many car makers they have branched out in style as well. The Maserati Levante for example is a high performance luxury SUV so it has to have some utility involved. The top towing capacity of the Levant is around 5912 lbs.

There are other models that can likely offer some level of towing capacity but you should check with your dealer for specifications and to determine whether you will need a towing package fitted to the vehicle.
