How Good are Chevrolet Vehicles for Towing?

The world-renowned auto brand Chevrolet is found in almost every automotive market around the world although in some they go by a different brand name such as Australia’s Holden Special Vehicles. With a wide variety of vehicles this branch of General Motors is extensive.

In 1910 General Motors fired their founder William C. Durant from his senior management position. Durant had purchased the Flint Wagon Works, Buick Motor Company, Mason and Little between 1904 – 1908.

It was while head of Buick that Durant first met and hired Louis Chevrolet, a Swiss race driver who would contest their promotional races. Upon his firing Durant would go on to partner with Louis and his brother Arthur Chevrolet. He brought financial partners onboard as well including William Little (maker of the Little automobile), Buick's former owner James H. Whiting, and Dr. Edwin R. Campbell, his daughter's husband.

Chevrolet was founded on November 3rd 1911 and their first factory was in Flint, Michigan at the corner of Wilcox and Kearsley Streets. The first Chevy designed was the Series C Classic Six which was ready as a prototype several months before the company was ready to go into production.

The first official model year was 1913 with the iconic bowtie emblem coming along a year later on H series models. The rumor holds that the bowtie logo was inspired by wallpaper that Durant once saw in a French hotel room. Another theory is that it may have been loosely based on the logo of the "Coalettes" coal company.

So, does the iconic Chevrolet brand have any ability when it comes to towing? This may be a question that doesn’t even need to be answered as some of the most iconic models of Chevy are their trucks. Chevy trucks are praised for their towing capacities.

The 2020 Chevrolet-GMC Silverado/Sierra 1500 CC SB 4WD when fitted with a 6.2L V-8 engine can tow up to 12,000 lbs. although it does need a towing package fitted. Other less powerful models of the Silverado can still manage in the region of 9,000 lbs. with ease.

The vast majority of Chevrolet vehicles will be capable of some level of towing and some at very impressive levels. You may need towing packages and you should most definitely research your specific model's limitations.

Chevrolet has become a market leader in trucks that can tow heavy loads so there is no shortage of options for those in need of a utility minded vehicle.
